I made it to Japan alive and tired, what with that 16 hour time difference. The hotel is very near Shinjuku Station, the busiest train station in the world, seeing close to 4 million passengers transit it daily. Let me tell you morning rush hour here is an experience. It's sort of like many rivers of humans all converging just as the doors open in a coordinated and crazy ballet. I actually saw a guy sleeping while standing up and leaning his forehead against the train car. Most people who aren't sleeping are glued to their けいた (cell phone) or DS. The really nice thing though is that you aren't allowed to actually talk on your cell phone on the train so even though there is literally no more room for another person in the car it's amazingly quiet.
The hotel has internet so I'll try to post more over the next few days before heading out into more remote areas of the country.
